5 Reasons Students NEED Technology in the Classroom
|We all know how technology is becoming an integral part of our daily lives, from taking over the role of our wallets to self-driving cars. The ever-evolving involvement of technology in our lives is inevitable, hence the advantages it brings in the way we learn is not a surprise. Helping us in understanding what we study in a better way than our conventional textbook methods. With just the internet being available to everyone worldwide, the way the educational system works has changed.
Here are a few reasons why students NEED technology in the classroom.
-
For a better understanding
In a textbook based teaching system, the teacher is limited with her explanations of how something works to the 2D images found in the textbook, and how much the student understands is left to the student’s imagination like certain topics of thermodynamics where the question and answer cannot be explained properly on paper. With the advancements in technology in educational institutions, teachers can explain with the help of 3D animations the topics they want to in the best possible way. The best possible way is showing the students with the help of 3D animations about how the topic of discussion really works in the real world.
-
Memorizing
Everyone has trouble memorizing topics they learn, mostly because they don’t understand the topic but also because of our brains’ retention limitations. It is known that our brains have a higher retentivity to the content that we see or visualize compared to something we read. The best example would be how we remember the plot of a movie we saw better than what we read in the news that particular day. In the same way, what we learn with the help of technology, through animations and sounds, is in a better format for the brain to retain for a longer period of time.
-
Sharing Ideas & Global Collaboration
In the earlier days when someone had a query about any topic they were interested in, the range of people who they could go to get an answer was minimal, basically family, friends and their teachers. But now, whenever someone has a doubt, they have a wide variety of ways they can express their ideas and queries with the world and have a real-time discussion on the topic with the help of blogs and debate pages. Even while preparing for their exams, a wide variety of material is available online from various sources widely increasing the availability of different types of questions available for the candidates to practice on.
-
Availability of Content
Before the internet, in case someone had to refer to a topic the person had to get to a library to get the concerned book on that topic. If the required book is not available, the person’s interest in the topic is vanquished by the unavailability of information. But now, with the internet being available to everyone, people are spoilt for choice. Students can refer and learn about any topic from acid rain to the big bang whenever required.
-
Improved assessment techniques
Not being limited to just pen and paper now, assessments can be conducted in various interactive ways. With adaptive learning techniques being employed wherein the difficulty level of the questions varies according to the student’s calibre. If the students are performing well, the difficulty level increases further improving the student’s knowledge in the topic. If the students have a hard time solving the problems, then the difficulty level is reduced at first and increased when the student’s start to perform better.
Hence we can see how with the help of technology, we have been enabled to broaden our horizons on what we want to learn, with a better way of understanding, retaining and communicating our ideas with the world. Essentially making us fall in love with learning. For more information on the need for technology in classrooms check out the content on this YouTube channel and subscribe –
