Both of these modems are supporting the latest internet standard namely Ipv4 and ipv6 so in this aspect, both can be considered equals.

Whether you opt for SB6183 or SB6190 you should know that both utilize the DOCSIS technology which means Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification and is regarded as the international standard specially made to ensure flawless high-speed data transfer through any existing cable TV connections. Right now, both of these modems are running on DOCSIS 3.0 technology which can’t be considered the latest version as the latest modem runs on DOCSIS 3.1 technology. As for example, the Arris SB6190 has the capacity to bond with 32 downloading channels and 8 uploading channels which is better compared to SB6183 modem but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will more than what your ISP service provider can offer but yes, in future if your provider starts to offer then you will be future ready.

Comparing the various aspects of these two modems, we can see that if we consider the download and upload speed, SB6190 modem is ahead of SB6183. Apart from that, when it comes to channel linking, SB6190 is a lot better compared to SB6183 modem. So, if you want a quick fix then go for SB6183 modem or else save some bucks wait some more days and go for SB6190 modem. If you have a tight budget, SB6183 will be more than enough to do your routine day 2 day online activities. So, it is currently advisable to go for 6183 on a temporary basis, say 6 months as a stop gap before you switch to the latest DOCSIS 3.1cable modems.
So, according to us in spite of having high speed and more channel linking capacity, SB6183 is the ideal stop gap modem.
