New Technology That Uses The Internet For Rodent Control

Pest control is an industry which always make use of new technology. From advanced inspection tools like drones, to sophisticated humane traps, new technology is quickly taken up by pest controllers from London to New York. One of the most exciting advances over the last few years has been the internet. For example, did you know that exterminators are now using the web for rodent control? They are doing this with the following tools.

Smart technology taken to another level

You’ve probably heard of smart technology and may even be using several smart devices in your home. In this case the word smart is also an acronym which stands for self-monitoring, analysis, and reporting technology. What this essentially means is that computer networks, and more specifically the internet, are now being used in many industries. This technology basically uses machine learning, artificial analysis, and big data to analyze and improve processes. While this may sound overly complicated it really isn’t.

One of the best examples of this type of technology are CCTV cameras. Many CCTV cameras have become incredibly sophisticated. Gone are the days of recording grainy black and white pictures onto a VHS tape. Today’s cameras are directly connected to the cloud. This allows them to record off site, and also record for an almost infinite amount of time. The old cliché of thieves stealing the tape is gone!

This also means that the feed can be monitored offsite in a control room, or even from your phone. Many cameras combine this technology with complex internal features. For many example, most cameras now have motion detection and heat detection abilities. When the camera detects something moving, it sends a message to your phone. You could be sitting in a restaurant and watch from your phone as people break into your home.

Howis it used in the fight against rodents?

The best example of this are so called, “smart traps.” These are essentially bait traps which implement this smart technology. This allows pest controllers to monitor rodent activity on an unprecedented scale. According to mouse control specialists Diamond Pest Control, rodent numbers in London have gone up significantly during the Covid crisis, so dealing with them sooner rather than later is crucial.

These smart traps have an array of features. To start with they can send real time data to pest technicians. This data includes many things. It lets technicians know if motion has been detected near the traps, and if the trap has been activated. Also, in the case of battery powered traps, technicians are warned when the batteries are running low. Some of these smart traps can even detect the amount of bait left in traps.

Many of these smart traps also use infrared technology. This allows you to monitor for pests around the clock. These can then be quickly detected and dealt with proactively. Just as with smart CCTV cameras, these traps also provide alerts when rodents enter the trap. This data can then be analyzed to detect trends, assess risks to the client, and improve pest control efforts.

Compare this to old school traps which would have to be manually checked. In this case the pest controller would have no idea as to what was going on. They had to manually check the trap from time to time and hope for the best. They had no real way to checking how much bait was left, or even if rodents had been caught.

The bottom line is that smart technology is opening a new vista for pest control in London and other major cities around the world. With this technology eliminating pests is becoming more efficient, easier, and also faster. Who knows what other advances the future will bring?
